Japanese Myths and Legends (goble Illustrated Edition)
About This Novel
How did Susanoo subdue the Yamata no Orochi? Why is spring full of vitality, but autumn is sad and desolate? Japanese myths and legends have their own romantic and unique interpretations. The book includes the familiar folk tale "Momotaro", "The Land of the Underworld" and "The Reckless Susano'o" which tell the origin of the Japanese gods, as well as "Star Lovers", "Horai Island" and "The Fox Girl Tamamo-mae" which are similar to the legends such as the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Xu Fu's Eastward Journey, and the Nine-tailed Fox Daji. Among these stories, there are only a few humorous plots and happy endings. What is more common is the sadness of lovers not being able to stay together, the sadness of things changing, and the detachment towards death. There is a lingering tragic atmosphere that makes people unable to calm down after reading the story.
