About This Novel

A complete collection of twenty-three plays from Shakespeare's comedies and tragedies. There are six volumes in total, three volumes of comedy and three volumes of tragedy. In 1947, "The Complete Works of Shakespeare's Dramas" translated by Mr. Zhu Shenghao was published by World Book Company. The entire book was selected and edited based on this edition. As one of China's earliest translators of Shakespeare's works, Zhu Shenghao's primary purpose of translation is to "maintain the charm of the original work", followed by clarity. It has been translated for more than seventy years and is still very popular. Zhu's translation is basically consistent with the style of today's Chinese. The distinctive Wu dialect and words that are unknown to modern readers but are rich in allusions and have great literary talent are all preserved in this edition. If combined with the context, these expressions will not cause obstacles to understanding the original text, and readers can also appreciate the charm of the original translation.
