Hamlet is the longest of all Shakespeare's plays. This play is the most frequently performed play by the Royal Shakespeare Company, formerly known as the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. One of the world's famous tragedies, it is also Shakespeare's most famous play. It has profound tragic significance, complex characters and rich and perfect tragic artistic techniques. It represents the highest achievement of the entire Western Renaissance literature. Together with "Macbeth", "King Lear" and "Othello", it forms Shakespeare's "four major tragedies".
