"Awakening the World" is a collection of vernacular short stories compiled by Feng Menglong in the late Ming Dynasty. This book collects 40 stories in different styles since the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Some of these stories come from historical biographies, some come from notes and novels of past dynasties, and the most fundamental sources are directly from folklore stories and from the actual life of society. Through these storylines and characters, the social life and people's wishes at that time are reflected from different angles and to varying degrees. It is rich in content, some reflecting love and marriage; some praising feudal officials and exposing the darkness of officialdom; some praising chivalry and denouncing ingratitude. The plot of the story is bizarre and twists, the characters have distinctive personalities and are full of interest.
