About This Novel

Philip K. Dick (December 16, 1928 - March 2, 1982) was an American science fiction writer and a pioneer of "cyberpunk" who won the Hugo Award and the Campbell Award. In addition to the 38 books that are still in circulation, he also wrote a number of short stories and a handful of works published in dime magazines, at least seven of which were adapted into films. Although he was praised by well-known science fiction writers Stanislaw Lem and Robert Heine during his lifetime, he became gradually known to people after his death. Dick's creations became a pioneer of the cyberpunk genre. His works all described a morally corrupt California society. His early novels explored social and political topics, while his later works discussed drugs and theology. These depictions were actually based on his own life experiences, such as "Scan" and "VALIS".
