Mirror River Woman
by Yang Xiuchun
About This Novel
More than a month after Binglian committed suicide by swallowing opium, and three years after his daughter Lamei was kidnapped by the old army on her way to get married, Tang Ying, who was crippled by the work team, and her son Shunxi, along with a cypress coffin, boarded a tattered flatbed truck. The cypress coffin was carved with patterns and painted. It looked heavy and solemn under the slanting sunlight, and shone with a strange light. After crossing the Jinghe River, the wheels of the cart got stuck. Three brothers, Li Fu, Li Sheng, and Li Han, bent down and pulled hard, and then the cart came out of the mud pit. Tang Ying hugged her son Shunxi and couldn't help but remember the good times when she was first married, riding a tall horse and wading across the Mirror River.
