About This Novel
Sixteen years ago, I graduated from college and was assigned to work in the Beida Bureau of Statistics. In the spring of the next year, my employer sent me to Beidu University to study financial theory for one semester, so I met Mr. Yang. Mr. Yang is Chinese and was born in Taiwan. He graduated from college in the mid-1960s. After serving in the military for two years, he went to the United States to study, received a doctorate, and worked as a researcher at a national laboratory in Montana. After China opened up, he returned to China for four consecutive years and gave guest lectures at various universities, introducing new methods and results of American scientific and technological research. Mr. Yang is not very tall or strong, but he always wears suits and leather shoes, has an impressive appearance, is radiant and full of confidence. People like this were rare in mainland China in the early 1980s. They seemed special and eye-catching.
