About This Novel
"The Blue House" is Cheng Naishan's masterpiece and a famous novel. It tells the story of the descendants of the wealthy Shanghai steel magnate Gu Fuxiang before liberation. The work uses the "Blue House" as a symbol to describe different ways of living and life choices. Regarding the story of the "Blue House", we can find too many traces from the Shanghai landmark "Green House" (Wu Tongwen's residence). Cheng Naishan's husband comes from this green house and is Wu Tongwen's grandson. Cheng Naishan wrote down the story because she believes that "architecture is a dialogue between man and time and space." In 1983, "The Blue House" was published. The Blue House was based on the Green House and told the story of three generations' choices about wealth and life. "The Blue Room" became a sensation after its publication and won the first "Zhongshan" Literature Award. In 1984, "Blue House" was adapted into a TV series and became the most popular TV series of the year, winning the 5th Feitian Award and the Golden Eagle Award.
