About This Novel

"The Palace of Eternal Life", one of the "Twin Jewels of the Early Qing Dynasty Theater", is based on Bai Juyi's long poem "Song of Everlasting Sorrow" and Bai Pu's play "Indus Rain". It emotionally and deeply interprets the love story between Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty and his imperial concubine Yang Yuhuan, and conveys the author's thoughts about his homeland. This book is based on the original edition of Baiqi Caotang, and is revised on the edition of Wenruilou and "The Legend of Warm Red Room Collection". It has detailed and accurate annotations. It is the best compiled edition at present. This revision also adds a number of color illustrations, such as "The Emperor Ming's Visit to Shu", "The Emperor Ming Plays Chess", "The Imperial Concubine Leaving the Bath", "The Imperial Concubine's Dawn Makeup", etc. Most of the illustrations selected in the book were created by painters of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. After processing, the colors are restored to a high degree, which can bring readers a vivid aesthetic experience.
