About This Novel
"The Red and the Black" is the representative work of Stendhal, the pioneer of French critical realism literature in 19th century France. This novel shows the full picture of the French Restoration period. It not only reveals the fate of the restored feudal aristocracy, but also criticizes the despicability of the powerful big bourgeoisie and its intricate struggles with the nobility and monks. It successfully shaped the image of Julien. The novel closely focuses on the main line of the protagonist Julien's personal struggle and ultimate failure. It extensively displays "the social atmosphere brought about by successive governments that weighed on the French people in the first 30 years of the 19th century" and reflects some essential issues in the political and social life of France in the early 19th century. The novel fully displays the protagonist's spiritual space in a profound and delicate style, and extensively uses a variety of artistic techniques such as monologue and free association to unearth Julien's deep conscious activities, and creates the "stream of consciousness novel" and "psychological novel" in later generations.

Sofa! A classic book worth recommending!
Reading it again after many years, I have a lot of feelings.
After reading it once, I said I didn't understand it very well and would read it a second time.
A masterpiece that I have read twice
Although I still can't quite understand and understand the church, class, and misplaced love in French society at that time, I was still simply attracted by Julien's story.
It was the ruthless society that suppressed the pursuit of love. Julien and Mrs. Delymont carefully discovered it, but had no choice but to terminate it. Loving someone is really hard. No matter when
At that time, the French ruling class suppressed the common people's rise and passionate pursuit, and the class stratification was obvious. It was also the era's contempt for Napoleon's spirit. But feeling bored is emotionally suitable for a scumbag, entangled with a married woman, provoking Mathilde for ambition and conquest, and struggling with emotional issues. Knowing that Mathilde was pregnant, he actually missed Mrs. Drena again, and even despised Mathilde. He also said that he would give birth to a child and raise it for Drena, without taking into account the feelings of being a mother.
