About This Novel
"Rashomon" tells the story of a dismissed servant and an old woman who was a robber. When faced with a life-or-death decision, they "reviled the evil with evil" to survive "as a matter of course". The novel uses a suffocating and compact layout to push people to the limit of life and death choices, conveying the author's perspective and thinking on human nature. "Rashomon" contains the most representative works of Ryunosuke Akutagawa: "Rashomon", "In the Bamboo Forest", "Hell Transformation", "The Nose", "Yam Porridge", "Kappa" and "Words of the Dwarf". Each novel is a classic work by the author. The plot of the novel is mysterious and profoundly demonstrates the choices and entanglements of human desire, conscience, and interests.
