About This Novel
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" tells the story of Dorian Gray, who was extremely handsome and kind-hearted. He saw the portrait made by the painter Hallward and discovered his amazing beauty. Under the temptation of the painter friend Lord Henry, he made a wish to the portrait: he would remain youthful forever, and all the vicissitudes of the years and the sins of youth would be borne by the portrait. At first, he didn't take it seriously, but when he toyed with an actress's feelings and caused her to commit suicide, he discovered that the self in the portrait had undergone evil changes. After that, the portrait became ugly day by day, but he remained beautiful. Eighteen years later, Dorian Gray murdered the painter Hallward out of hatred for the painter's work and disgust for his own soul. Later, the actress's brother came to seek revenge, but died unexpectedly. It was the death of the actress' brother that awakened Dorian Gray's conscience. He stabbed the portrait with a knife, but he died mysteriously...
