About This Novel
"The Tale of Genji (Illustrated Collector's Edition)" was born in Japan's Heian period 1,000 years ago and is the world's earliest novel. With an aristocratic splendor, beauty, and historian-like magnificence, it tells us a sad love story of four generations, mainly Genji, and many women that has been passed down for thousands of years. It also unfolds a picture of the social style, natural landscape, and the gorgeous and extravagant life of the nobles in the Heian period, reflecting the unique beauty of the Japanese nation's "material sorrow."
