About This Novel
"Water Margin" is one of the four classic Chinese classics and a famous novel of the Ming Dynasty. This book is one of the most epic works in Chinese literature and one of the earliest chapter novels written in vernacular in Chinese history. The book describes the story of 108 heroes led by Song Jiang in the late Northern Song Dynasty who were recruited and fought in various places after the Liangshan Uprising and Juyi. It vividly depicts the entire process of the peasant uprising from its occurrence, development to failure. It profoundly reveals the social roots of the uprising and enthusiastically praises the spirit of resistance and struggle of the uprising heroes and their social ideals. It has historical connotation.
