About This Novel

"Youth Notes" uses an old notebook as a guide to connect a past youth friendship full of warmth and regret. When moving, "I" found the blue-covered notebook at the bottom of the carton, and the camphor leaves falling between the yellowed pages instantly brought my memory back to my sophomore year in high school ten years ago. Transfer student Lin Xiaoman broke into "my" life with a mint-like voice and a star pin. After becoming roommates, the two soon became inseparable. The strawberry candies in the drawer in the morning, the neatly marked English notes, the quiet afternoons shared in the old bookstore, these small daily moments vividly demonstrate the purity of adolescent friendship. But the appearance of Chen Yu broke this harmony. Seeing Lin Xiaoman treating the wound of Chen Yu who had a sprained foot, "I" felt inexplicably sour and began to deliberately distance myself from her. Faced with Lin Xiaoman's confusion and concern, "I" always escaped. It was not until the silence of the CCP holding an umbrella during the heavy rain and the review materials she handed over before the college entrance examination that "I" felt regretful, but never said it out loud. After the college entrance examination, Lin Xiaoman choked up when singing "Later" and the apology he did not say when the performance ended became regrets in his youth. Later, the two went to different cities, and their contact gradually became less and less. However, the words "Youth is like a heavy rain" in the notebook expressed the essence of youth - even if there are misunderstandings and misses, those warm pasts will still become the light that illuminates future life.
