About This Novel
The day that Xiao Gen received the admission notice from County No. 1 Middle School was the day that the illegal mining farm where his father, Lao Gen, worked was bombed and closed by the county government and the County Public Security Bureau. The mining field is so important to Xiaoxi Village. Most of the men work in this mine. Although they only earn four to five hundred yuan a month, these four to five hundred yuan are the livelihood of the whole family. So when they heard that the mine was going to be blown up, all the men and women in the village rushed to the mountain early in the morning. The men were talking fiercely about how they wanted to fight the government, but when they arrived at the scene and saw a large group of police approaching menacingly, they became discouraged and dispersed; they did not dare to fight against the government. However, the women in the village volunteered to rush to the wellhead, saying that they wanted to blow up the mine together.
