Wen Shuqiao
About This Novel
"Wen Shu Chao" is a collection of short stories written by Junichiro Tanizaki during his artistic maturity. "Wen Shusho" takes the decline of the Toyotomi family as the background, and through a blind mage's narration of Ishida Mitsunari's daughter, it outlines for readers the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's nephew and adopted son - Toyotomi Hideji. According to legend, he was bloodthirsty, violent and cruel, and was known as "Kuan Bai". His life experience is like a gorgeous but cruel picture of hell. The work depicts the beauty of women through the perspective of a blind mage, relying only on smell and touch, which is also a characteristic of Tanizaki's works. In addition to the title "Wen Shu Chao", this book also includes three works: "Three Masters", "The Case of the Lacquer Miner of Kii Province Possessed by a Fox", and "The Case of the Man Who Became a Tengu in the Sea".
