"Magic Whip" is set in the urban arena of Tianjin Wei in the late Qing Dynasty, telling the legendary story of "Silly Er" who used his ancestral braiding skills to dominate the streets. One of Sha Er's pigtails appeared mysteriously, and a set of braid skills allowed him to sweep across the martial arts field, causing a huge disturbance in the docks and rivers and lakes, and earning him the reputation of the "Magic Whip". Later, during the Boxer Rebellion, Sha Er fought against foreigners, and the "Magic Whip" became a "magic weapon" against foreign guns. However, pigtails were ultimately no match for long guns and short cannons. When the "divine whip" was interrupted by a foreign gun, he decided to cut off his pigtails and give up martial arts, and instead practiced marksmanship hard to regain his reputation in the name of "divine spear".
