About This Novel
This book is divided into two parts: Chinese modern novels and Chinese contemporary novels. The chapters of the whole book are mainly arranged with time as the longitude and specific writers' works as the latitude. In terms of the selection of chapters, this book covers the major novelists and representative works of different literary schools covered in the course on the history of modern and contemporary Chinese literature. It also includes new works that caused great repercussions in that year or have appeared since the 21st century (mainly works that won the Mao Dun Literature Award). In terms of specific content arrangement, each chapter includes three parts: an introduction to the author, an introduction to the work, and after-class exercises. This book focuses on the analysis of the novel's themes, ideas, and artistic features from two dimensions: writers and works. It aims to guide readers to comprehensively understand the outstanding creative achievements and splendid style of Chinese modern and contemporary novels, grasp the laws of development and evolution of Chinese modern and contemporary novels, and thereby improve readers' ability to analyze and appreciate novels.
