Women were important performers of agricultural labor in the Song Dynasty, but due to the popularization of the term "men farmed and women weaved" in the Song Dynasty, stereotyped gender prejudices were formed in the world. In fact, they play an important role in manual labor such as rice and wheat harvesting, not limited to sericulture and weaving. In addition, the occupations of women in the Song Dynasty were widely distributed in silk weaving, selling, shop and hotel services, and medicine. Female chefs also worked in the kitchens of wealthy households, bringing about changes in the food structure that included small poultry and livestock in the menu and the popularity of fermented pasta.
