Journey to the West 1
About This Novel
The novel takes the four masters and disciples of Xuanzang as they go to the West to learn Buddhist scriptures as the main line, and tells the story of Xuanzang's fantastic journey through eighty-one difficult battles to conquer demons. The historical facts of Xuanzang's Buddhist scriptures were based on the records in "Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty" and gradually became deified after artistic processing in "The Biography of Master Tripitaka of Daci'en Temple in the Tang Dynasty". It was repeatedly interpreted in folk literature such as "The Poems of Tripitaka's Buddhist scriptures in the Tang Dynasty" and Yuan Zaju in the Southern Song Dynasty, and was finally reconstructed by Wu Cheng'en in literature. While retaining the historical framework, the work presents the core theme of spiritual practice and enlightenment through mythological imagination.
