About This Novel
From the founding of New China to 1966, it was a climax period for the creation and publication of novels in our country. In more than ten years, a large number of works have been published. "The Tempest" is one of the works that represents the achievement of novel creation in that period. The novel mainly reflects the entire process of land reform from 1946 to 1947 in a village named Yuanmaotun in Northeast China. The book is divided into two parts. The first part describes how Yuanmaotun Village, under the leadership of the work team, defeated the bully landlord Han Laoliu from the time when the Party Central Committee issued the "May 4th Instructions" in 1946 to before the promulgation of the "Outline of China's Land Law" in 1947. The story of repelling the bandit attack, this one has Zhao Yulin as the main character; the second part describes the further deepening of the land reform movement after the promulgation of the "Outline of China's Land Law" in October 1947, with Guo Quanhai as the main character. This novel reproduces the process of the land reform movement in the liberated areas on a large scale and completely. It has distinctive characteristics of the times and a strong flavor of life. It creates a number of vivid characters and occupies an important position in the history of contemporary Chinese literature.
