Grandma's Box of Unopened Letters
About This Novel
Story summary (fitting the movie, but adapted into a novel) In an old house in Chaoshan, 88-year-old Lin Shuqing (grandma) has spent her whole life guarding a box of overseas Chinese batches. In 1949, her husband Chen Shouyi went to Nanyang to Thailand. From then on, he only relied on letters and remittances to support his family. My grandmother raised her three children, and the man in the letter was gentle and affectionate: "There is no spring in Siam, you are my spring." Your grandson Chen Nianan (the protagonist of your novel, 22 years old) failed to start a business shortly after graduating from college and owed a debt. When he was desperate, he dug out his grandmother's old letters locked in a wooden box. He heard people in the village say, "Your grandfather has become a big boss in Thailand."
