About This Novel
Writer Xiao Jianghong's short story collection includes five novels including "A Hundred Birds Pay Attendance to the Phoenix", "Us", "Heaven's Mouth", "Shouting Soul" and "Criminal Suspect". "A Hundred Birds Pay Attendance to the Phoenix", the swan song of Wu Tianming, the leader of China's fourth generation of directors, is adapted from the novel "A Hundred Birds Pay Attendance to the Phoenix". The original author Xiao Jianghong serves as the screenwriter, and it stars veteran drama star Tao Zeru and young actor Li Mincheng. The story takes two generations of suona craftsmen from the small town of Qinchuan as the protagonists. It shows the inheritance of the craftsman spirit by the new and old generations of artists in an era of social changes and impetuous people, their willfulness not to be impressed by reality, and their persistence in pursuing ideals. The film won numerous awards while touring abroad, and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese praised the film. After two years of twists and turns, it was finally released in China on May 6, 2016. Its reputation has been rising and it has received unprecedented support. Most of the Chinese film industry spontaneously supported the film.
