About This Novel
Pu Songling (1640-1715), a writer and novelist in the Qing Dynasty, also known as Liuxian and Swordsman, also known as Mr. Liuquan and known as "Mr. Liaozhai" in the world, was born in Zichuan, Shandong. He was born into a family of small landowners and businessmen. He was very unhappy in the imperial examination. He did not pass the imperial examination until he was 71 years old. Pu Songling loved folk literature since he was a child and created many literary works. In addition to "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", there are 4 volumes of anthology, 6 volumes of poetry; miscellaneous works such as "Quotations of Shengshen" and "Huaixinglu"; 3 kinds of operas and 14 kinds of popular slang. It was collected and compiled into "Pu Songling Collection". "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" is a collection of short stories in classical Chinese, with more than 400 pieces in total. "Liaozhai" is the name of Pu Songling's study. "Zhi" means to record, and "different" refers to strange stories, which refers to the strange stories recorded in Liaozhai.
