About This Novel
"River Valley" tells the story of the workers of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in the mid-to-late 20th century, reclaiming wasteland, guarding the border, and pursuing happiness; in a certain sense, this book is also a history of women's growth. The protagonist of the novel, Tian Xiu, went to Xinjiang's Huyanghe Farm to work as an agricultural worker in her twenties, and met Yu Hui, the farm director's wife, by chance. Tian Xiu's husband died unexpectedly, and Yu Hui tried her best to help her introduce someone to her. Tian Xiu likes Director Song's family, but since she has no children, she transfers her maternal love to Director Song's daughter Song Xue. All members of the farm went to work on water conservancy construction. In order to boost morale, the farm director arranged for his wife Yu Hui to take the lead in doing heavy physical labor. Yu Hui unfortunately died in an accident. On her deathbed, she told Tian Xiu to marry the farm manager Song and entrust her daughter to her. When everything seemed to be going well, others set a trap and took away the happiness that originally belonged to them; then, a storm suddenly arose... No matter how the times changed, Tian Xiu always raised Song Xue with heart, protected love, and devoted her whole life to this.
