About This Novel

"My Fragrance" is Yang Benfen's novel focusing on marriage stories. Following "Autumn Garden" and "Driftwood", Yang Benfen tells the story of sixty years of marriage, and writes about the pain and confusion that no one knows. This is a book of pain. Marriage is a matter of luck, and it may not lead to happiness, but to heartbreak. This is also a book of courage. "The world cannot see me, but I see me." How many "good old man" husbands are there in Chinese-style marriages? How many invisible women are there? It brings resonance and courage to thousands of women, and is dedicated to you, me and her who are not seen.

The writing is very real and appropriate. This is probably the love story of parents in the 1960s and 1970s. It is plain, but each has its own pain. Throughout the text, Lu is used to introduce the male protagonist. There is no complete name. Probably his behavior represents the irresponsibility of most men in marriage. The growth and health of the child is entirely the responsibility of the mother. However, the two still stayed together. Lu was sick many times, but Huicai took care of him and shouldered family responsibilities. One can imagine what the consequences would be if Huicai fell ill. The two spent sixty years of marriage together, but in the end Lu said that she did not want to be with Huicai in the next life. They each had their own pains in this marriage. Huicai was both lucky and unfortunate. Although she did not find happiness, her children all had great potential and she loved life until she was eighty-one years old.
