About This Novel
I wonder if it is due to the rapid development of modern civilization that people's lives and interpersonal relationships have become greatly complicated. Our country has a long history of civilization, a particularly large and therefore crowded population, a long cultural tradition of working hard on interpersonal relationships, frequent and violent social changes in the past century, the influence of class struggle as a "main subject" in recent decades, and more and more people flocking to and yearning for cities... All these factors make our literature and our nerves closely focus on the interpersonal affinity and struggle in pigeon-cage buildings. Sometimes, after reading one novel after another, we cannot even imagine the natural environment in which its protagonists live, nor can we imagine their living conditions other than intrigues with others or love and hatred.
