About This Novel
"Castle" tells the story of land surveyor K who was ordered to take up a post in a certain city. He traveled a long distance, but was unexpectedly blocked outside the castle gate. In order to prove the legitimacy of his existence, K went to great lengths to ask the village chief about his employment, but he could not find a real employment letter. He seduced Frieda, the mistress of the castle official Kramm, and wanted to know more about Kramm. However, under the influence of several events, Frieda alienated him. He managed to get acquainted with the messenger Barnabas and his family, but they still had no way to turn to others and how could they help others. He waited for Klamm in the snowy night, hoping to talk to Klamm face to face, but in the end it was Klamm's secretary who came... The castle is located on a hill, but it is out of reach. Facing this powerful castle, K was helpless and failed to enter the castle in the end. K in the novel is like a lost lamb. He has no identity, no relatives, and no real friends. It seems that the entire village is full of hostility towards him, and he has never gained the trust of the castle authorities.
