The book begins in Mongolia and describes Gelvinduri's life before receiving higher education. The closed and traditional traditional style of the previous generation still affects him, but when he walks out of the grassland, he faces another kind of modern life. Since his ancestors still grew up in a feudal environment, the protagonist's thoughts after marriage are still relatively traditional and feudal. Such thoughts lead to the disintegration of the male protagonist's marriage. The protagonist studied hard and entered research institutions in Brazil and the United States to conduct teaching and scientific research. This is different from the closed and remote life in Mongolia in the past. The protagonist left Mongolia and may yearn for this modern life.
