"Once Upon a Time in the Courtyard" is a story about the love between childhood sweethearts. The heroine Yu Cheng and the hero Gu Fangjue grew up in a compound and fell in love because of a prank. However, Yu Cheng's father died unexpectedly and her mother remarried, so she left the compound with her mother. Nine years later, Yu Cheng became a reporter and returned to Yancheng; Gu Fangjue became a domestic large aircraft designer and returned to Yancheng for vacation. The two met again in the hotel, but due to a misunderstanding, Gu Fangjue became alienated from Yu Cheng. Yu Cheng was eager to regain his old relationship, but Gu Fangjue refused because he misunderstood that she "had another love".
