About This Novel
The key reminds me of an old man, an old man suffering from a stroke. The old man suffering from a stroke had a bunch of keys in his trousers, about ten of them, tied to a shiny keychain. By that time, the old man's condition had improved a bit and he was able to take a walk by the river next to the village. In my memory, it was winter in the creek. There were low willows and elm trees with all their leaves beside the river. There are paths made by people among the withered yellow grass on the shore. The old man can no longer speak, but his consciousness is still clear. He knows that walking is beneficial to the treatment of stroke and the continuation of life. Elderly people suffering from stroke understand very well the preciousness of life. Before suffering the stroke, the old man was a very respectable carpenter in our village. I was still young at that time and still living in the countryside. All I can remember now is the old man suffering from stroke walking by the river, and the bunch of keys I saw hanging on the old man's hip.
