About This Novel
My twin brother Sean was shot and killed in the car. There was a line of enigmatic poetry left at the scene: "Free from space, transcending time." Sean was a detective in the homicide unit. He was investigating a murder case before the accident, but there was no progress. Police said he could not bear the pressure and committed suicide. I was shocked and sad, but I could only face the reality. As a journalist, I decided to write a report as a memorial. In order to understand the causes of police suicide, I browsed relevant reports and suddenly found that there was also a poem left at the scene of another police suicide a year ago: "Roaring past the pale palace door." My heart suddenly tightened, and my internal organs seemed to be tightly grasped by a cold hand. I couldn't read anything anymore except these two lines from the same author. The year after the novel was published, it won three international awards: the Anthony Award, the Nero Award, and the Delise Award.
