About This Novel
Everything in the world has a price, except time, every second is every second, and no one can bargain. So I am always on business trips and devote every minute and second of my life to work, because I firmly believe that creating wealth is the proper destination of time. At the age of 45, I became a successful man with a career and capital, but my wife and son left me. Cancer sent me to the hospital, and a week ago I met the five-year-old girl in the next ward. She used crayons to color chairs, made dinosaurs out of milk cartons, and told stories to rabbit dolls, all to comfort her mother and those who came to visit her. Death is approaching day by day, but the girl is still looking forward to her mother telling her bedtime stories, going to school, and looking forward to next year's birthday party. She secretly told me that aliens in white coats would come and cure her illness. She reminds me of my own son and the things I didn't do for him. The night when the God of Death came to take the girl away, a big hole in my heart seemed to be torn open. I offered to the God of Death to exchange my life for the girl's life, but the God of Death also asked to erase all traces of me in the world. How have I spent the past 45 years, from being the son of my parents to being the father of my son? A reckoning with the past made me finally understand what time really means.
