About This Novel

The protagonist Vodaf in "Confessions of a Century" is a playboy in Paris. When he discovers that his mistress has betrayed him, he is mentally shocked and has doubts about everything. Therefore, he devotes himself to a dissolute life and contracts the so-called "disease of the century." Until his father died, he returned to the countryside and met the gentle and kind-hearted Mrs. Bisson. Soon they fell in love. However, this love ended in tragedy due to Vodaf's doubt and pessimism. The novel made important contributions to the creation of French romantic psychological novels and to paving the way for modern French novels.
