About This Novel
That year, the artist Mr. Tang Zhigang discovered Chuangku, an old factory building in the Machine Tool Factory on Xiba Road in Kunming, with gray brick walls, rusty iron stairs, flower stands covered with wisteria, and old villas. Everyone who engages in art does not like this kind of place. Tang Zhigang told his colleagues about his idea, and everyone hit it off immediately. The abandoned factory buildings were all rented out and used as a creative base for painters, photographers, and poets. I told Tang Zhigang that I wanted to paint, write poems, and novels, so Tang Zhigang found me a room. It was not large, only 8 square meters, but it was enough for me. I moved in some old furniture, including the armchair my father had sat on, suitcases used by my grandmother and mother, as well as Filipino electric stoves, shotguns, old wooden cabinets, and military document packages before liberation.
