Zhou Bangyan, also known as Meicheng, was born in Qiantang, Hangzhou (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang). Zhou Bangyan was a master of poetry in the Northern Song Dynasty and had great influence in the Song Dynasty. His works have long been respected as "authentic" among Wanyue poets. This book selects Zhou Bangyan's poems and has two appendixes, each with annotations and explanations. The annotations are detailed and appropriate, mainly explaining the meaning of words and explaining allusions; the explanatory notes are based on careful reading of the text, the writing is delicate and beautiful, and it is both readable and academically insightful.
