Love in Confused Times
by Wang Xiao
About This Novel
"Love in the Age of Confusion" is the author Wang Xiao's second novel after "The Lonely". The novel describes the joys and sorrows of a group of boys and girls in the process of pursuing love from the 1950s to the 21st century, and shows their confused, ignorant, hesitant and struggling life course. Love and dislove often torture the characters in the book, as Chernyshevsky said: "What does it mean to love someone? It means to be happy for his happiness, to do everything needed to make him happier, and to get happiness from it." This is true for the "nymphomaniac sisters" in the book, Li Xiaoxiao, Xiang Hongyu, and Hu Xinghua, all of whom are silently paying for the person they love, suffering from pain, and even paying the price of their lives. The novel reflects the helplessness of young people under the background of the times, as well as a series of emotional entanglements and conflicts, reveals the goodness and ugliness of human nature, and makes people ponder whether the true meaning of love is as the British philosopher Bacon said: "The so-called eternal love is from loving a beauty to graying hair, from loving a flower to dying." The author hopes so, but pain always follows.
