About This Novel
"Sad Man" is Chen Tong's first officially published novel. It was conceived from the video "Small Street Style" he shot in 2018. The title of the book is the same as the title of the episode in the video (composed and sung by the Wu Tiao Ren band Mao Tao). In a stage-like or camera-like scroll, many characters are performing the same pretentious and unrestrained performances as Chen Tong: No one is living a better life than me, and no one is living a worse life than me. To put it another way: this is a novel written for "readers", a novel written for you and me who have experienced a lot of sadness but also love life very much; the story takes place inside and outside the bookstore, at this end and that end of the small street, in every corner of the city - rental houses, foot bath shops and food stalls... In short, it is not a big deal, but it seems to happen again every day. But that was in the not-too-distant past, when people still wrote letters to each other...
