About This Novel

"Black Panther in the Basement" is a memory novel. According to Oz himself, it is like a warehouse that contains all the themes of his works. The book is based on the writer's childhood experience and incorporates rich literary imagination. It uses vivid writing techniques to show the writer's wise thinking on paradoxical issues such as reason and emotion, ideals and reality, mission and morality, national emotions and humanitarian principles. The story takes place in the final stages of the British Mandate for Palestine in the summer of 1947, on the eve of the establishment of the state of Israel. 12-Year-old Profi is a sensitive boy. He always hopes that the British troops stationed in Israel can evacuate as soon as possible. He and his friends often try to scare the British troops away. One day, Profi was caught by the British soldier Dunlop for violating curfew. Dunlop did not punish the boy, but just escorted him home. A friendship develops between the sergeant and the little boy.
