About This Novel

On New Year's Day, I called the old director's house. This has been a common practice for the past ten years. During the holidays, make a phone call as a courtesy and to express greetings. This was not the case ten years ago. Every Spring Festival, even though it was still a period of material shortage, the old director would always prepare trays of rare peanuts, persimmons, orchid beans and other New Year goods, waiting for us to reunite with him at his home as if we were returning to our parents' home. The old director said: "We are friends over the years and friends in times of adversity. We are not just one family, but we are better than one family." The Spring Festival at that time was really a grand festival. The New Year greetings are filled with touching family affection and friendship. We had New Year's dinner together at noon. Even though everyone didn't drink much, they drank too much without concealing it, and they had to get drunk. The only time I got drunk in my life was at my old director's house.
