About This Novel

"Torch in the Ear" is the second part of Canetti's autobiographical trilogy, which spans from 1927 to 1931. After being forcibly taken away from Zurich, the paradise of knowledge, by his mother, Canetti came to Frankfurt, Germany, to "face real life." After graduating from high school, again against his will, he entered the University of Vienna to study chemistry. Fortunately, during this period, he never gave up his pursuit of literature and art. He met celebrities in the literary and artistic circles such as Hermann Bloch, Bertolt Brecht, and Isaac Babel, and met Visa, who later became his wife.
