About This Novel

This is Mr. Jin Yong's last martial arts novel, and it is also the pinnacle of his work! The novel tells the story of Wei Xiaobao, a child who grew up in a brothel in Yangzhou. He broke into various gangs without any martial arts skills, dealt with the emperor's courtiers, and went on an expedition to Yunnan and Russia. The book is full of wonderful dialogues and counter-thinking events! Mr. Jin Yong closely connected Wei Xiaobao's personal experience with history, and played with the magic mirror of history, which is admirable and almost believed to be true. Xiaobao's way of life and ruthless exposure of the dark side of all walks of life make this book a martial arts novel that is not a martial arts novel, to the point where no sword is better than a sword. Wei Xiaobao is the most ordinary person, just like the people around you and me.

The passionate little bastard--Wei Xiaobao [The Deer and the Cauldron]

Wei Xiaobao is the male protagonist in Jin Yong's "The Deer and the Cauldron". Wei Xiaobao has the aura of the protagonist as soon as he appears on the scene. He is extremely lucky. He has met noble people and gained promotions along the way. Wei Xiaobao seems to be a gangster in Mr. Jin Yong's works. He doesn't know anything, he just relies on his mouth to make a living. It's such a protagonist, but I admire it very much. Why? Because he is real! He always treats people with sincerity. He is loyal, affectionate and grateful. Not full of hypocrisy. He was sincere to his master and brothers, and would not hesitate to offend Tianyan for their sake. Is it because Wei Xiaobao doesn't know how to change things and be tactful? How is that possible! He happens to be the person who knows how to be tactful. Otherwise, how could he have risen step by step and become like a fish in water in the government? Wei Xiaobao is not a hero in our traditional sense, it can even be said to be the opposite. He is just a gangster, a passionate little gangster! What should your hero look like?

Mr. JC's impressions after viewing - The Deer and the Cauldron

I am ashamed to say that I have watched all martial arts novels in the form of games, comics, TV series, etc. Since I was a child. I had never thought of reading the original work, but it was Mr. Jin's departure that inspired me to read the original work. The Deer and the Cauldron - hailed by many as Jin Yong's best and least martial arts novel. From the heroes and powerful weapons in the past, they have become the world of officialdom and clever debates in the world. The protagonist Wei Xiaobao was born in a land of fireworks, is greedy for money, lustful, despicable, full of lies, and barely understands martial arts. But it is this ruffian-like character who understands righteousness, justice and love better than many chivalrous warriors with strong martial arts skills in the book. He is willing to go through mountains of swords and seas of fire for his brothers, but when faced with those wives who have hurt him many times, he always maintains the posture of "Although you want to kill me, I still love you." With lucky cells, he helped Kangxi pacify San Francisco, conquer Taiwan, and fight against Rakshasa. At a young age, he had all kinds of fame, wealth and achievements, but in the end, because of the dilemma of loyalty and righteousness, he gave up his fame and retired to live a happy life. Overall, the story of The Deer and the Cauldron is humorous and exciting. Compared with previous simple martial arts works such as "Shooting the Condor" and "Swordsman", there are more elements of family, country and nation. Among them, the view that "it is more important to be a good emperor, or it is more important for a Han to be the emperor" is even more thought-provoking. But if you want to say it's perfect, it's a matter of opinion. There are two points in the plot that I think are a little bit abrupt: First, the forty-two chapter scriptures that countless people worked hard and sacrificed their lives to snatch. In the end, after Wei Xiaobao collected the treasure map and obtained the treasure map, he never set foot on this treasure! ? This is really a pity. It feels like a foreshadowing that has been laid with so much hard work has been wasted. (No wonder later screenwriters of both movies and TV series like to write a lot about this treasure.) Secondly, the emotional changes of the three wives, A Ke, Su Quan, and Fang Yi, also changed too quickly. Although it can be said that each has its own reasons, there is little explanation in the plot. It is inevitable that people will feel like "yesterday I would kill you with a knife, and today I will sleep next to you and give birth to your child." Although there are two complaints, the shortcomings do not hide the good points. I am still not satisfied with the novel. Among them, the appearance of the characters in Blue Blood Sword aroused my interest in this "prequel". In my heart, Mr. Jin Yong is absolutely great! In addition to realizing the martial arts dream of several generations, his pen has also supported countless practitioners in the literary and art circles in society. Da Xia Jin, a true hero!
