About This Novel
"A Dream of Red Mansions" is the first of the four classic Chinese classics and a universally recognized Chinese classical novel. The book takes the love tragedy of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu as the main line, and uses the rise and fall of the four major families of Jia, Shi, Wang, and Xue as the background. It focuses on describing the process of the Jia Jiarong and Ning mansions from prosperity to decline. It truly and vividly describes the human condition of the late Chinese feudal society in the first half of the 18th century. It comprehensively describes the various intricate contradictions of feudal aristocratic families. It has attracted generations of readers with its rich connotations and profound descriptions. The main originals of this version of "Dream of Red Mansions" are Gengchen's version and Cheng Jia's version, and the plot is highly complete. The first eighty chapters were edited by Gengchen, and the last forty chapters were edited by Gao E, which highly restores the author's original creation. The comments of Zhiyanzhai and Huhuazhu are retained. Zhiyanzhai is a commentator recognized by Cao Xueqin, and Huhuazhu is a popular commentator in the Qing Dynasty. The two commentaries are combined, the interpretation is complete, the writing is exquisite, and the music is full of mystery.
