"Water Margin" is the first full-length novel in the history of Chinese literature to describe a peasant uprising. It is one of the "Four Great Classical Classics" and was praised as the "Fifth Gifted Book" by Jin Shengtan, a famous literary critic in the Qing Dynasty. It inherits and develops the traditional characteristics of ancient Chinese novels and historical scripts, and is my country's first heroic legend transformed from historical storytelling. "Water Margin" is like a long historical picture, in which we see not only the epic peasant uprising itself, but also political culture, market customs and social landscape. It is a complete record of that era. The plot of the book is tortuous and touching, the images are lifelike and vivid, the 108 generals each have their own charm, the language is simple and elegant, and you will never tire of reading it. "Water Margin" specifically and vividly describes the story of a group of civilians, middle- and lower-level gentry, bureaucrats, and military officers during the Northern Song Dynasty who rose up to resist and went to Liangshan to gather for righteousness because they could not bear the exploitation and oppression of the government and the court.
