About This Novel

This novel is adapted from real events and records ten years of being a counselor. In 2014, when I was facing an internship, I looked around at a loss. The internship has not been settled and the future is blank. I didn't know where to go, or even where I could go. At this time, my counselor, Teacher Zhang, said to me: Our school's technical secondary school department is recruiting counselors. You go and try. From a junior college student to a counselor, from being managed to a manager, this transition was hasty, clumsy, and without any preparation. I don't know if I can control those technical secondary school students who are only two or three years younger than me. I don't know how to deal with fighting and absenteeism, which are problems I have never really faced. I don't know why I, a junior college graduate, am called "teacher" while standing on the podium. All I know is that since I am in this position, I cannot admit defeat. Over the next ten years or so, I went from being at a loss to getting better, from imitating others to finding my own way, from being afraid of making mistakes to learning to take responsibility. On the same campus, I went from being young to being calm, from being led by others to leading others. The young man who suffered from insomnia because of fear gradually became the "reliable" counselor among students. This is not a story about a heroic counterattack. There are no earth-shattering turns, no blockbuster highlights. There is only an ordinary person who spent more than ten years in an ordinary position and gradually grew into what he wanted to be. No one told me that I have been walking this road for more than ten years. As I walk, I look back and realize that I have come so far.
