A scholar's research cannot be separated from the era in which he lives. The influence of the times on scholars' scholarship mainly reflects two aspects: one is academic trends, and the other is academic atmosphere. This book is titled "Historical Trends and Academic Styles" not only because they are the main elements of the academic environment, but also because they are of special significance in today's China. The author selected 18 relevant articles, speeches and interviews published in the past ten years to form this collection, which is divided into two parts: "Historical Trends" and "Study Style". Each part has three groups of articles, each discussing a topic; the "Study Style Part" has an appendix on what kind of talents universities should cultivate. When these articles were published together, only a few changes were made. I hope readers will adopt the attitude of "each takes what he needs" and get something useful for him/her. If it can help readers in their scholarship (especially history), then the purpose of this book will be achieved.
