The New Aesthetics of "materialism": on the Narrative of Daily Life in Contemporary Novels
by Yu Shujing
About This Novel
This book takes the daily life narratives of contemporary mainland China since the 1980s as the research object, and outlines the historical trajectory of how the daily life narratives that were "suppressed" in Chinese literature from the 1950s to the 1970s were presented one by one in the new realistic novels of the 1980s, the urban desire-oriented writing of the 1990s, the youth writing of the "post-80s" creative group in the new century, and the "lower class" writing that once became famous later. Based on a close reading of relevant novel narrative texts, the book takes "everyday life" as a problem consciousness and combines it with the closely related social, historical and cultural context, and with the help of relevant theories of daily life, attempts to conduct a tentative elucidation, analysis and exploratory discussion of this phenomenon as a whole.
