About This Novel
While my husband was being interviewed, I was wiping the leaves of the orchid in his award-winning painting in the yard. In front of the camera, the host asked. "Teacher Lu, you and your wife are called the divine couple in the art world. We have been together for more than thirty years. What do you think is the most perfect partnership?" He sounded like he was stating scientific observations. "Like plants and light, a symbiotic relationship that requires each other but does not interfere with each other." The orchid leaves are as clean as new, but my fingers are full of earthy smell. I was caught on camera as I stood up, and the host turned the microphone towards me. "Mrs. Lu, if you could sum up your marriage with Teacher Lu in one sentence, what would it be?" I looked at my rough hands and compared them with his glamorous dress, my tone was calm and helpless. "If there is an afterlife, I will definitely not marry him."
