In an old alley in late autumn, Lin Wan met Jiang Xu, the bookstore owner, because of an old picture book. Jiang Xu's tender care illuminated Lin Wan's life like a warm sun, and the two gradually got closer amidst the fragrance of books and flowers. But a sudden parting brought this warmth to a temporary end. Lin Wan took the peony picture book and the agreement left by Jiang Xu and held on to it during the long wait. It wasn't until the next spring, when the peonies bloomed all over the streets, that gentle figure finally returned, meeting again across the mountains and seas.
